Is INR Accepted in Nepal?

Yes, Indian Rupees (INR) are widely accepted in Nepal. From 15th December 2025, INR 200 and INR 500 notes are legal in Nepal. Indian citizens can now carry up to INR 25,000 in cash of ₹200 and ₹500 notes Indian travelers visiting Nepal. However, we would like to suggest that please carry ₹100 notes because it is easy to exchange everywhere in Nepal. Indian travelers visiting Nepal can carry up to the equivalent of $5,000 in Indian rupees, instead of the current cap of INR25,000.

We suggest that you exchange Indian currency for Nepalese Rupees (NPR) at authorized Money changers or banks in Nepal. So it is always a good idea to carry some local currency for smaller transactions. If you are searching for Nepal holiday packages, we have a special tour package for Indian travellersFor more information

Exchange rate INR 100 = NPR 160
